Schools league 2012

The Galway schools leagues were held today .. Wednesday 25/4/12.  A big shout out to players, teachers and parents who made this event so good ..

A host of schools were represented, the standard super good.  Castlebar (St. Pat’s) won both sections of the all-Ireland qualifiers, and the investment of time by players and teacher, Brendan McHugh is clear to see.

The Girls only section was keenly contested, and I overheard one girl comment to her opponent “you are a really good chess player” , a comment which typified the spirit of the day.

The local Galway league will be completed next Monday.

Schools involved .. Briarhill , Scoil Cholman , Clarenbridge , Claregalway , Bushy Park , Castlebar , Craughwell and Lisheenkyle.  When to hand we’ll post some pic’s and the tables.

Interestingly, .. the Children have access to chess at their school everyday and playeach lunch time.  They are all-Ireland champions at community games now for the last 2 years ,.. maybe we can learn from them !
