Can Girls play chess ?
Improvers competition : Well why not ask the winners of our improvers event .. 1st – Lauren McMahon , .. 2nd – Katelyn McMahon (her twin sister) , and 3rd – Aoife Castle. All on 5 out of 6 points. Well done Girls !!
There were many great performances in this section, and to be fair the winner could have been anyone of 12 players going into the last round. Early leaders Nicole Gantly and Denis Rusko were desperately unlucky not to be in the prizes ..
Advanced competition : This event is made up of past winners of the Improvers, so every game is a tough one. 1st place – Adam Healy winning his 2nd tournament of the season , 2nd – Johannes Ritter in his first w/e event, and finally 3rd – George Fernhead , the youngest player in this event.
Thanks to Felix Calleja of the senior chess club for helping out on the day, and once again we must complement all the players on their excellent sportsmanship and chess playing.
